Past Accomplishments

Athens-Clarke County is far ahead of many areas.  In 1999 the Comprehensive Plan for Athens-Clarke County and the City of Winterville was completed.  Citizens, local leaders and business groups worked together to form a vision for our community.  A set of “Guiding Principles” was established to ensure that the values expressed by the residents of Athens Clarke County were incorporated into current and future planning processes. A Future Land Use Plan was adopted and became the touchstone for land use decisions within Athens-Clarke County. 

The Comprehensive Plan for Athens-Clarke County and the City of Winterville was selected by Georgia Planning Association (GPA) to receive their 1999 award for "Outstanding Planning Process."  The award was presented at the Georgia Planning Association’s Fall Conference.
