Comprehensive Plan
On July 15, 2008
Athens-Clarke County received the Georgia Department of Community
Affair’s approval of the Comprehensive Plan thus extending
Athens-Clarke County’s status as a Qualified Local Government
(OLG). Congratulations
and Thanks to all those who worked on this project and contributed
their time and expertise.

Historically known as "Hot Corner", this area of Downtown Athens was established as an African-American business and cultural center at the turn of the century.
Our community is
not the same place it was twenty years ago; nor will it be the same
place twenty years from now. Athens-Clarke County is an
exciting and vibrant community. Like other communities all
over the country, Athens-Clarke County must take active, thoughtful
steps to preserve a high quality of life. The path to
accomplish this goal involves planning for how land is to be used,
protecting the natural environment, designing visually appealing
places and developing a transportation system that integrates a
variety of options.
