Historic Preservation

In order to protect historic character, locally designated historic properties-- whether a part of a district or individually recognized as landmarks--require a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes.  Athens-Clarke County presently has a total of nine (9) local districts and forty-one (41) individual local landmarks.
>>Learn more about historic designations, Certificates of Appropriateness, and the benefits of perservation in the Applications and Resources section below.
